Boston Marathon to Pay Additional Prize Money to Top Women in First WavePublished by
B.A.A. Announces Extra Prize Money for Top First Wave WomenBy Adam Kopet The 2018 Boston Marathon will go down in the history books as one of the craziest races in the storied history of the race. Not only did Desiree Linden become the first American woman to win the race in 33 years, the cold, wind and rain all had a significant impact on the race. The women's race was slowed by the conditions. For the first time since there was an elite women's race in Boston, five women in the first wave of the mass start finished in the top 15 by their net times. By race rules, women must start in the elite women's race to be eligible for prize money. However, the B.A.A. announced Thursday in a press release that the five women whose net times placed them in the top 15 will receive prize money equal to their overall finishing place. This money will be paid in addition to the normal top 15 prize money for the women who started in the elite race. More news |
