Young Runner Keeps Pace With Edna KiplagatPublished by
Video posted by B.A.A. showcases young fan keeping up with Boston championEver wonder how long you could keep up with a world-class marathoner? Well, a video posted by the Boston Athletic Association today show’s a young fan keeping up with eventual Boston Marathon champion Edna Kiplagat for an impressive 20 seconds — in the challenging Newton hills section of the course, no less. The overhead angle shot by local broadcaster WBZ-TV shows a young boy watching the race in Newton chasing down Kiplagat, the two-time IAAF World Champion and a past Abbott World Marathon Majors series winner. Dodging trees, lawn chairs, and other spectators, the youngster quickly leaves his friend behind before matching Kiplagat stride for stride. For a brief moment the young harrier gains a step’s edge on Kiplagat, only to succumb to the building fatigue at an intersection. He then looks back to see how far he's ran. Safe to say this isn’t the first time Kiplagat has been chased by a young fan: Kiplagat is the mother of five children. Son Carlos and daughter Wendy were on hand to celebrate her Boston win at the finish line on Boylston Street. The B.A.A. posted the video encouraging young runners to sign up for their free B.A.A. 10K Youth Races, which will be held on June 25 in Boston as part of the B.A.A. 10K. More news |
