Misfortune turns fortuitous for Higgins

Delays and nutrition issues forced Paige Higgins to drop out of the L.A. Marathon after 16 miles last month. Unwilling to accept no result for her hard work, she turned her attention to the Boston Marathon on short preparation. BOSTON -- As she lay on the side of the road, the physical weakness that overcame Paige Higgins two-thirds of the way into the Los Angeles Marathon paled in comparison to the frustration of what appeared to be a wasted training cycle.

And she was having none of it.

"It was an unfortunate situation that was really hard to take because I had never dropped out of a marathon before," Higgins said. "We put so much training in and I can't just settle for having absolutely nothing to show for it. It's just not in me."
