From Portland to Rochester Hills, Brooks Marathoners Mobilize to Prepare for Boston

Four Brooks Running marathon veterans will line up against one of the deepest Boston Marathon elite fields ever assembled this Patriots’ Day, and they will be ready. Hansons-Brooks Original Distance Project (ODP) runners Desiree Linden, Dathan Ritzenhein and Shadrack Biwott join Brooks runner Ryan Vail in the marathon’s elite field all focused on a top finish on Boylston.

Knocking on the door of the podium after two fourth-place finishes at the Boston Marathon, Hansons-Brooks ODP runner and two-time Olympian Desiree Linden knows she belongs at the front of the pack and is out to prove it. Linden will position herself in the lead pack and draw from her additional winter speed work to secure a top finish on Boylston this year. As a proponent for women in sport on the global stage, she has a message for the next generation of young female runners: “Always believe you belong.”

In his first marathon with the Hansons-Brooks ODP, three-time Olympian Dathan Ritzenhein steps to the Boston Marathon starting line looking to set a high standard for his career with his new team. Now under the guidance of coaches Keith and Kevin Hanson and with the benefit of training with teammate and fourth place finisher at last year’s Boston Marathon Shadrack Biwott, Ritzenhein seeks to regain his place atop the U.S. running charts.

When he missed the Boston podium last year by only one spot, Biwott knew he’d be back this year with sights set on moving up the results page. This time around Biwott benefits from his new coaches and team including training partner Ritzenhein.

Ryan Vail comes into this spring marathon following a first-for-the-U.S. finish at the Berlin Marathon last fall. Vail has three top-10 World Marathon Majors finishes to his name, and he aims to make Boston his fourth with a goal of capturing another first U.S. finisher title.
